The Joy of Motion provides classes designed to enhance children’s strength, flexibility, coordination, muscle control, and self-expression through dance-related movements and gymnastic exercises. This child-centered, holistic program is designed to positively impact many components of a child’s growth and development, bolstering physical competency as well as enhancing cognitive functioning and empowering emotional well-being.

The Joy of Motion provides a creative outlet for children to explore the depths of their own imaginations through movement and song in a positive, open environment where children’s actions are validated and positively reinforced by peers and teachers, alike.  The class also creates a fun positive image of exercise, in general, as the children explore the arts of dance and gymnastics at a level that is developmentally appropriate for them.

The Joy of Motion has been providing various styles of dance and gymnastics classes to children and adults of all ages since 2006.  Our adult and senior classes are specifically designed to put the joy back into the exercises our students need in order to retain their strength, flexibility, coordination, and muscle control. Our program is holistic and recognizes that each student is an individual with unique physical and emotional needs.  As such, we strive to ensure our program is a positive outlet for our students, and we work towards empowering their emotional well-being in addition to bolstering their physical competency and supporting cognitive their functioning.

Each dance class will begin with a warm-up that includes gentle stretches, isolated movements, and step combinations from various styles of dance, including tap, ballet and jazz.  Movements that are more challenging and require more physical effort are alternated with simpler moves and stretches. Individual movements are selected based upon class ability and stamina.

Following the warm-up, each class will learn a short dance routine or combination that focuses on coordinating full body motion and challenges memory retention.  A new combination will be created and studied each class, and can be themed to coordinate with other events at host locations.  Generally, our classes are taught in a seated position.  Standing classes are optional and dependent upon class ability level.
